The Agency is not relenting in her capacity building strides as this is cardinal to staff optimal job performance.
The DG/CEO NESREA, Dr. (Mrs.) Ngeri S. Benebo, a woman known for her passion for excellence, has commenced the training of staff of the Agency- mostly in the state & zonal offices on compliance monitoring and enforcement.
From the 18th of January to 5th of february 2010, Staff of Kebbi, Lagos, Oyo, Osun, Enugu, Nassarawa, Gombe, Ekiti and Ondo field office have so far benefitted from the exercise.
NESREA, in her belief in collaboration & partnership in combating Environmental challenges have, also in these states mentioned, inculcated some staff of the state ministries, departments, agencies and other stakeholders in this training. Being an ongoing exercise, the Agency will spread her tentacles to other field offices that have not yet benefitted from this “Largesse”In the Last one and half year, staff in the headquarters in Abuja, The North Central Zonal office of Jos, South East Zonal Office of Owerri, South South Zonal office of Port Harcourt, Markurdi and Illorin field offices of the Agency have undergone similar training.
As a new Agency, there is the dire need to develop enormous human capability that is sufficiently knowledgeable to handle and deliver the vision of a “cleaner and healthier environment for all Nigerians”. In this wise, NESREA, has partnered with International Agencies in the area of institutional strengthening and capacity improvement.
Principal among these, are the Partners for Water and Sanitation (PAWS), the UK Environment Agency for England and Wales, Netherlands Fellowship Programme and UNEP/UNESCO/BMU Programme. As part of these collaborative efforts, PAWS sponsored two senior management staff of NESREA for a 7-week and a 3 month Work Placement at the Environment Agency for England and Wales respectively. The Netherlands Fellowship Progamme is sponsoring 14 staff of the Agency on different courses ranging from 3 weeks to 3 months in schools and cities in the Netherlands. Also another NESREA staff was part of the UNEP/UNESCO/BMU 47th short course in Dresden, Germany.
The focused direction and determination of the DG/CEO and the top management crew of NESREA to place staff on a sound footing for the desired service delivery is highly commendable and as such, Staff are to utilize these opportunities for optimal job performance towards ensuring a cleaner and Healthier environment for the present and future generations of Nigerians. This is the NESREA mandate and we must live it.
