The Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in December, 2006 appointed Dr. (Mrs.) Ngeri S. Benebo, as the Director General/CEO of the newly established National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA). Dr Benebo born on May 11, 1955, hails from Okirika, River State, in the Niger-Delta Region of Nigeria. Before her appointment, Dr. Benebo was a Director in the Pollution Control and Environmental Health Department of the Federal Ministry of Environment, Abuja, Nigeria where she among other things supervised the development of the National Environmental Sanitation Policy, Guidelines and Action Plan.
Dr. Benebo holds a National Award of the “Member Federal Republic of Nigeria (MFR)”; other awards of distinction held by Dr. Benebo include the National Productivity Merit Award (NPMA) and the Federal Ministry of Health Merit Award.
Dr. Benebo’s educational pursuit was both within and outside Nigeria and her educational qualifications include a Doctor of Medicine (MD), a Masters in Public Health (MPH), a Fellowship of the Nigerian Postgraduate Medical College of Public Health (FMCPH) and a Diploma in Statistics & Epidemiology.
Dr Benebo is a professional per excellence with sound analytical and research skills combined with substantive experience in management and administration; her work experience in the health and environment sectors span over twenty-seven years. She is familiar with scientific and technical backgrounds of multilateral environmental conventions on Biodiversity, air and water pollution, climate change, and waste management amongst others.
